Welcome ! As a young French Marketing professional with a Master's in International Management I have been selecting since January 2007 the latest headlines and best researches on sustainable development, climate change, cleantech and the world energy sector. Sounds great ? Don't hesitate to subscribe now !

The Guardian published last week a lenghty article on how the Rio 20+ conference – which will take place in June – might be a huge disappointment as little has been done since and even less might be done.

Due to last only three days when the original event lasted two full weeks, there shouldn’t be any binding agreement, just a few statements and speeches… Likewise, few political leaders will attend.

Since our representatives haven’t understood yet that the only way to solve our current triple crisis is investing in the Green Economy, WE the people have to step up and make ourselves heard.

I have been convinced for years now that the only solution to our current global triple crisis - massive unemployment, climate change, peak oil - is the Green Economy. The UNEP and many NGOs have reinforced this strong belief.

Cleantech is already a reality as $260 billion were invested last year alone, and it is only the beginning as the UN declared this year will be the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. Continue »

If climate change, rising sea levels and the threats to global peace and food production weren’t enough to you, here is another reason to fight carbon dioxide : ocean acidification. To Mongabay :

Emissions of carbon over the last two centuries have raised the acidity of the oceans to the highest levels in 21,000 years and likely beyond, according to a new study in Nature Climate Change. “

This could have serious implications for marine biodiversity, notably corrals and mollusks. So, what are we waiting for to act ?

Here is my latest post on Cleantechies :  “The European Environment Agency published in November a report on the cost, the toll, of air pollution due to industrial facilities to the European Union. “

” And the costs are staggering as the 10,000 facilities induced up to 102 and 169 billion euros in 2009 alone. However, a small number of these plants are responsible for the vast majority of this pollution. “

As usual to keep reading the article, please check it out there. I hope you will like it and look forward to reading your comments.

According to RIA Novosti – the Russian state-owned news agency – quoting the local emergencies ministry : ” Temperatures in Russia in the past century rose at twice the rate of warming in the rest of the world “

The article goes further : ” (…) In addition, as compared to the 100-year trend, the rate of warming grew several times, annual precipitation figures are growing… as is the frequency and intensity of flooding.”

” (…) Water resources will increase in regions with higher precipitation, while arid zones, on the contrary, will face further precipitation decline.”

To Reuters quoting a local scientific report : ” Global warming threatens China’s march to prosperity by cutting crops, shrinking rivers and unleashing more droughts and floods. “

China faces extremely grim ecological and environmental conditions under the impact of continued global warming and changes to China’s regional environment,”

Given how the situation is dire already, one can wonder how it could be even worse… This sure explains why the People’s Republic is acting so massively on cleantech. Continue »

Bees are a critical element of global ecosystems and thus, to our survival. Didn’t Albert Einsteim himself stated that ” If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live. “

Most unfortunately, those great insects are endangered by Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). To a news article from Grist, the problem is nearing a tipping point. Indeed :

“(c)ommercial beekeepers have seen average population losses of about 30 percent each year since 2006 “ I guess it’s high time we tackle the issue.

If you aren’t familiar with US environmental politics, you might not have heard about Big Oil’s latest craze : building a 1.700 mile (2,736 km) long pipeline to bring tar sands oil extracted from Canada to the US Gulf coast.

After many twists and turns, President Barack Obama – the green Prez that should have been – seem to have finally decided to reject this huge and polluting project, and this albeit the important political pressure.

Is this the first step toward a more sustainable America ? Let’s hope Mr. Obama will fight on green issues. Not only will this help him get reelected, it would also help us all…

This is getting truly worrying. To TreeHugger : “The first week of the new year has seen temperatures that are in some parts of the nation nearly 40 degrees (Fahrenheit) higher than average. Which is crazy. “

The situation on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean is similar as The Guardian notes : “The first signs of spring are emerging weeks early in the countryside and in gardens as a result of the mild winter, experts said on Sunday. “

So, a year without winter ? I haven’t seen snow this year and it seems I won’t see any. After a year 2011 that was really records-setting, it seems 2012 will break even more records of heat…
