While browsing my tweets to prepare my selection of Twitter for June I found several articles pointing out to a quick climate fix : tackling black carbon (also known as soot) might prove to bring exceptional greenhouse gases emissions cuts.

The work was carried out jointly by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and published in margin of the Bonn Climate Talks in June.

On top of slowing climate change, this would prove to have important health and agriculture benefits. Indeed up to 2.5 million lives could be saved each year. This is exactly a win-win-win situation. Continue »

While writing my selection of tweets for May, I found three really scary stories about how global warming is already dramatically affecting the most populated continent in the world, Asia as well as its two most populated nations.

From the 1,400 dry water reservoirs in central China caused by a five-month drought to the absolutely shocking suicide rates of Indian farmers (one every thirty minutes), one can see that climate change is already a horrifying reality…

And this might just well be the beginning as to the Indian Space Research Organization 75% of the Himalayas glaciers are retreating. If this trend continues, even less water will be available…

To CleanTechies : ” According to a new NASA-funded study, Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are losing mass at a much faster rate than previous model forecasts have predicted. “

” Results suggest that the ice sheets, found only in Antarctica and Greenland, are melting faster than mountain glaciers and ice caps and are poised to become the dominant factor in global sea-level rise. “

For more frightening details about how fast this phenomenon is occurring, I recommend you to read the full article. This shows that, more than ever, we have to act…

I heard that term before as extreme events are unfolding. But two contributors of the Huffington Post believe that what we are witnessing this summer - fires in Russia, floods in Pakistan, heat waves in America – is a sign of global weirding.

And they make quite a point as in a few weeks, so many weather extremes took and are taking place. Last week a glacier four times bigger than Manhattan broke off into the sea.

I send you to the complete article as I believe it is quite a must read for any responsible citizen. This shows once again it is high time to act !

The UNEP and the World Glacier Monitoring Service published a report showing how glaciers all around the world are melting faster and faster, thus threatening the water supplies of hundred of millions of people.

The report then noted that “the average annual melting rate of glaciers doubled after the turn of the millennium.” This scary finding should trigger global action to prevent the worse from occurring.

To read out more on this interesting topic please check out the UNEP press release or download the full report in pdf format  (26 Mb).

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall, always. — Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
