A video of aurora borealis seen from space
Posted by: on January 4, 2009 in Tags: Astronomy, photo, USA, Video
On December 24th, the famous Earthrise photo turned 40 years old. Andrew Revkin, New York Times’ journalist and blogger at Dot Earth published that day a most interesting note on this event.
Since I use this photo for this very blog I left a comment there. The day after I had the honor of a personal answer from Mr. Revkin himself. On his e-mail he presented me a video of an aurora Borealis seen from space.
This was the occasion for me to read out more on Dot Earth and to discover the videos published on YouTube by Mr. Revkin. Continue reading »
The story of stuff… a mandatory video ?

For the past few months, I have been reading about this video without never watching it. After a comment on La Marguerite Blog, I decided to do so.
In 20 minutes or so, I learned a lot about the true cost and life cycle of the stuff we buy year after year and how this excessive phenomenon endangers our planet and very survival.
I don’t agree with everything stated by Annie Leonard, but I believe nonetheless that it should be watched by all to better grasp the consequences of consumerism. Continue reading »
Google invests in Enhanced Geothermal Systems

Google is really interested in renewable energy sources. After putting millions in solar and wind energies, they are this time investing in harvesting the ground’s energy.
Focusing this time on a specific technology called Enhanced Geothermal Sytems - EGS for short - Google is putting 10.25 million USD (7 million euros) on the table.
EGS seems to be a wonderful technology to provide greenhouse gases free energy when it will be ready for full scale commercial applications. Continue reading »

If you had a look recently at the sidebar of this blog, you may have noticed that I added a link on what is RSS just next to the subscription button.
This sends you to a page featuring a great video by the Common Craft Show. This company didn’t stop right there and did the same thing to explain CFL light bulbs in plain English.
In three minutes, those of you who still haven’t switched to these marvels will be convinced to take this first step towards decreasing your bills and CO2 emissions. Continue reading »
Can the USA get 100 % of their electricity by clean energies ?
Posted by: on July 18, 2008 in Tags: Energy, renewables, USA, Video
If you don’t read US environmental blogs, you may not know that yesterday Al Gore issued a speech that may become as historical as JFK’s one on sending a man on the Moon.
Indeed, the former Vice President proposes to produce a 100 percent of the country’s electricity by low carbon energies within ten years. A fantastic goal.
Doing in ten years such a thing - shifting the totality of electricity sources to low carbon solutions - is a HUGE project that will require a lot of money and people. Continue reading »
Animals save the Planet, what about you ?
Posted by: on May 16, 2008 in Tags: Sustainable development, Video
I recently discovered a series of a dozen cartoons that have a serious potential to turn both young and older citizens into environmentally responsible ones.
Animals save the Planet propose in each very short yet hilarious episode a gesture that is easy to both remember and to do.
Step by step, you will learn to save water, energy as well as many other gestures that will help in preserving their - and ours by the way - planet. Continue reading »
Al Gore’s new presentation : fantastic !
Posted by: on April 22, 2008 in Tags: Climate change, USA, Video
It seems that the former vice president of the United States and Nobel Peace Prize Al Gore (pictured left) is more and more in the news.
This is due to me to make major topics of the environment protection and climate change mitigation in the elections which will happen later this year in the USA.
His new presentation was much talked about in environmental blogs accross the ocean and it is well deserved. You will see why if you decide to Continue reading »
Nobel Peace Prize 2007 goes to the IPCC and Al Gore

Today’s major event is the Nobel Peace Prize, which goes to the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and to Al Gore, for their tireless work on raising the public awareness on man-made climate change.
This recognizes in perhaps the best possible way that global warming has to be fought against.
The Nobel Committee was particularly struck by (t)heir efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.
For this month’s cultural break - with some late, again - I would like to talk to you about the latest Pixar animation movie, Ratatouille.
I had the opportunity and pleasure to see it two weeks ago with Qat and his family. The least I can say is that we really enjoyed it.
From the very good story, to the great characters and magnificent animation techniques, Ratatouille is simply a must watch.
